The guided
tours trace the story of the Czech and Slovak Surrealist Group from its
founding in 1934 to the present day. Along the way, we will encounter key
figures and works, explore the remarkable continuity of Czech Surrealism, and
consider its connections with the international Surrealist movement. We will
also examine how the work of successive generations evolved in response to
changing social and political circumstances. Particular attention will be given
to the periods when the movement was forced underground, and to the ways in
which Surrealist artists sought new directions, raised new questions, and
continually re-examined the fundamental principles of Surrealism. The
exhibition also shows that the Czech Surrealist Group is not merely a chapter
in art history, but remains a living and active movement today.
