Archive of the Venice Art Biennale
The Venice Art Biennale was first held in 1895 as the International Art Exhibition of the City of Venice. Since then, it has been organized every two years. Below you will find an archive of the Czechoslovak, and later Czech participation.

The Silence of the Mole
The Silence of the Mole project will be presented in the same year that marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Czechoslovak Pavilion. This year, after a period of twenty years, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have agreed on staging a joint exhibition presentation at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

EVA KOŤÁTKOVÁ
The Heart of a Giraffe in Captivity is Twelve Kilos Lighter relates the story of a real giraffe named Lenka, brought to Prague in 1954 from Kenya as the first giraffe in a Czechoslovak zoo. This theme is used to explore the ways in which we encounter, look at, and learn about animals and to denounce the hierarchies, violence, and exploitation of nature that are often part of these processes.

Stanislav Kolíbal
The exhibition develops the key themes of Kolíbal´s work – time and lability – as a critical response to the challenging political and social context in Czechoslovakia and nowadays.

Jiří David
The specific work of Jiří David is based on the monumental painting Apotheosis "Slavs for Humanity!", which makes part of the cycle The Slavs Epic from Alfons Mucha. The installation was presented in the Czech and Slovak Pavilion at the 56th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia.

Dominik Lang
Dominik Lang has prepared an installation in which he presents the statues of his father, Jiří Lang, which has been deformed and set in a new context. "I had to overcome the barrier of feeling that - at first sight - I was destroying things of a great value to me," he said about his project The Sleeping City.
