The Graphic
Arts Cabinet presents the work of the artist Helena Emingerová (1858–1943)
through the prints she produced from the second half of the 1890s. Already a
respected and experienced portraitist at the time, Emingerová discovered a new
medium in graphic art – a medium through which she could further develop her
sensitivity for depicting people and everyday life. The selection of prints not
only introduces the artist’s oeuvre through socially themed motifs and
portraits of ordinary people as well as prominent figures of contemporary cultural
and artistic life but also offers a view into the very beginnings of modern
Czech graphic art from the perspective of a female artist.
