Experience an evening filled with artistic events: a special exhibition of an iconic drawing by Egon Schiele, interventions in the permanent exhibitions and architecture of the Trade Fair Palace, a live performance by Nils Amadeus Lange, and the opening of Prague Art Week. The programme also includes the launch of a limited edition series of stamps commemorating the 230th anniversary. And throughout the evening, the collection exhibitions at the Trade Fair Palace will be open to the public free of charge, including the NGP 230 Years exhibition and Zbyněk Sekal’s new graphic art collection, Blue Flower.

Edith and Egon: Iconic Drawings of Egon Schiele from the NGP Collections
The anniversary will also be commemorated by an exceptional presentation of the original iconic drawing by Egon Schiele, Seated Woman with Bent Knees (Edith).

Alongside other artworks from the NGP collections, it features as a motif on a special anniversary edition of eight postage stamps accompanying the anniversary campaign. The stamps will be available in NGP shops and, of course, at Czech Post, individually or as a complete set in a commemorative sheet.
Egon Schiele’s drawing Seated Woman with Bent Knees (Edith) will be on display from 24 September to 11 October 2026, followed by another well-known drawing by Egon Schiele from the NGP collection, Self-Portrait, on display from 13 to 25 October 2026. The drawings cannot be exhibited permanently, as exposure to light causes the colours to fade and the paper to become yellow and brittle.

NGP 230: Stories of the Trade Fair Palace
The NGP is celebrating its anniversary with a series of artistic and architectural interventions that, through temporarily installed works, will recall the history of the NGP in the Trade Fair Palace as well as the transformations of the National Gallery itself. You will see works by Jan Kaplický, Vojtěch Kovářík, Martin Zetová, Magdaléna Cubrová, Tomáš Vaněk, Jan Šerých and other installations dedicated to the architecture and history of the building.

Nils Amadeus Lange:
Hildegarda z Bingenu
The evening will open with the performance Hildegard of Bingen by Swiss artist Nils Amadeus Lange, bringing to life the work of the medieval mystic, healer, and thinker Hildegard of Bingen on plants, sexuality, music, and the body. The performance is presented by Lunchmeat Festival, the National Gallery Prague, tranzit.cz, and Prague Art Week.

As part of the evening, we will also open an exhibition in the Graphic Arts Cabinet entitled Zbyněk Sekal – Blue Flower.
Discover the drawings of sculptor Zbyněk Sekal, from his early figurative studies to works created during his emigration in Vienna. For the very first time, you will also be able to see works acquired by the NGP through a donation from the artist’s widow, Christine Sekal.
