The Czech-Japanese Association, in cooperation
with the National Gallery Prague, presents a unique programme dedicated to the
traditional Japanese transverse bamboo flute shinobue, performed by the
renowned Japanese musician Yasukazu Kanō.
The event will begin with a short public musical performance in the foyer of Salm Palace, offering visitors an authentic taste of Japanese music and the distinctive sound of this traditional instrument.
This will be followed by a lecture accompanied by live musical demonstrations, exploring the history of Japanese flutes, their development, the various types of shinobue, and the unique techniques used in their performance. Yasukazu Kanō will present the shinobue not only as a traditional instrument associated with Japanese festivals, theatre, and folk music, but also as a powerful medium for contemporary musical expression, connecting Japanese tradition with modern world music.
The programme will feature live performances, explanations of tone production and sound techniques, as well as demonstrations of the diverse musical styles and expressive possibilities of this remarkable instrument.
The programme will be conducted in English with Czech interpretation.
