Presented on the occasion of the Frankfurt Book
Fair 2026, with the Czech Republic as the Guest of Honour, the contemporary Czech
architecture exhibition at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum DAM (September
2026–January 2027) showcases innovative projects and best-practice examples by
young architects from the so-called millennial
generation. It offers a
unique opportunity to introduce the relatively unknown young Czech architectural
scene to the German public and strengthen professional and cultural relations. It
builds upon the legacy of the Villa Tugendhat in Brno, designed by Ludwig Mies
van der Rohe (b. 1886) at the age of 42, as an iconic building of modernism.
The exhibition includes 28 award-winning architectural projects, mainly located
in regions outside of Prague, thereby encouraging a multi-local approach to exploring
the Czech Republic. The exhibition is curated by Helena Huber-Doudová from the
National Gallery Prague.
The project aims to highlight and celebrate
contemporary Czech architecture in Germany and historic German architecture in Czechia.
Striving for international visibility and outreach, it connects Czech, German,
and international partners. The selection of projects and studios for the
exhibition and accompanying publication is informed by consultations with
partner institutions. For the long-term sustainability and international
presence of the exhibition, we are negotiating to present the project as a touring
exhibition in the network of Czech Centres.
