The Graphic Cabinet follows the exhibition [A Dream within a Dream: Edgar Allan Poe and Art in the Czech lands](/en/exposition-detail/dream-within-a-dream-edgar-allan-poe). The series of six lithographs from 1882 entitled *À Edgar Poe* honour the poet whose works Redon read in translation by the leading French poets Charles Baudelaire and Stéphane Mallarmé. The texts inspired him to create dreamy motifs with poetic titles. In these six plates, he uncovers the monstrous and unreal power of imagination, capturing the human fear of and fascination with terror. The spontaneity, originality and uniqueness of artistic expression bring him close to the essence of Poe’s work. The images evoke specific scenes and moods present in Poe’s writings.
