Petr Šámal, Ph.D.
Curator of the Collection of Prints and Drawings
Petr Šámal graduated in Art History from the Faculty of Arts of Charles University (diploma thesis: Women artists in Bohemia in the Nineteenth Century). He completed a doctoral programme of study with the dissertation titled Decoration of Prague Residential Buildings from the 1960s until World War 1. Curator in the Collection of Prints and Drawings of the National Gallery Prague, he focuses on 19th century prints and drawings. Apart from graphic cabinets and exhibitions focusing on art on paper, he has prepared other exhibition projects dedicated to the art of the era. Dr Šámal’s scientific and publication activities concentrate on art monuments in Prague, architectural décor, women artists, and other topics related to painting, sculpture, and architecture in the 19th and first half of the 20th century.
