Experience fine art differently! In the exhibition, you will meet choreographers right in the middle of their work.
American choreographer, arts activist and mentor Sue Schroeder is coming to the Czech Republic for an intensive 10-day collaboration with selected Czech choreographers and members of her ensemble, Core Dance. Sue Schroeder’s work is based on “scores,” or movement interventions, in this case, drawn from selected works in the National Gallery’s permanent exhibition 1796–1918: Art of the Long Century. Visitors will see choreography emerging from the subject matter of objects, paintings and sculptures and the concept of the exhibition as a whole. You may see the results of the project on two occasions:
• October 10th 14.00 Dance and the Moving Body as Installation, Sculpture garden of the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia
• October 13th, 18.00 19th century (wo)man: A contemporary intervention, 1796–1918: Art of the Long Century exhibition
The artists, who will use the exhibition’s themes and works as a source of internal inspiration, are characterised by a distinct departure from routine understandings of dance. They will facilitate spectators’ kinaesthetic encounter with the “story of art” through their physical interpretation of artworks, including their ideas and contexts, in relation to the period in which they were created and the present. The project is part of the long-running Dance in the Gallery cycle, which is characterised by interdisciplinary collaboration between dance and the visual arts. The project invites visitors to look at artworks anew through an unusual means of expression. The Gallery Without Borders was created in 2020–2021 on the basis of a co-production of the SE.S.TA Center for Choreographic Development with the American Core Dance studio and in cooperation with the National Gallery in Prague, with the support of MKCR and the State Culture Fund of the Czech Republic.
