Education Department

The Education Department offers National Gallery Prague visitors an extensive program ranging from guided tours, lectures and debates, to art (and other) workshops, seminars and courses. Activities target the needs of different types of visitors and offer up the Gallery as a place for meetings, education and enjoyment for adults and kids. School groups and teachers are an important target group for the Education Department’s special programs. Our team of full- and part-time staff (that has been years in the making) includes university graduates and students of art history, aesthetics or fine arts as well as specialists in drama-based education, young teachers and visual artists.

The National Gallery Prague first offered educational activities in the 1960s, always in connection with specific collections and exhibitions. Over the years, these educational programs have developed from lectures and expert commentary on acquisitions to visitor engagement through elaborate and interactive programs and programs based on personal experience, where artworks are variously interpreted and discussion and creative activities are combined. The Gallery thus becomes a venue for new experiences, spiritual enrichment, education, artistic endeavour and the respectful sharing of art.
