Rules for visitors

..of the Permanent and Temporary Exhibitions of the National Gallery in Prague

  1. The visitor is admitted to all the exhibition premises of the National Gallery in Prague upon presenting a valid admission ticket. The National Gallery ticket offices sell tickets marked with the day of admittance and authorization to enter the respective premises. The number of visitors admitted to individual exhibitions at a given time may be limited for safety reasons. Groups of visitors should consist of no more than 30 persons. The visitor is obliged to respect any instructions of the National Gallery staff and guards.
  2. Information about admission fees is displayed by the ticket office. The admission fee is paid in cash in Czech crowns. Any payment by invoice is handled by the National Gallery's Department of Economics and Operations.
  3. The visitor is required to leave any objects larger than 30 x 40 cm or longer than 40 cm such as umbrellas, bags and any backpacks and baby carriers at the cloakroom before entering the exhibition premises. Coats should also be left in the cloakroom as they may not be hung over the arm in the exhibition spaces. Any valuables (such as documents, cameras, VCR equipment etc.) can be deposited in cloakroom lockers, where available. If the visitor loses the cloakroom ticket (token, locker key), he/she will be required to pay a penalty of 100 crowns.
  4. It is forbidden to enter the exhibition premises with a gun or accompanied by an animal, with the exception of seeing-eye dogs.
  5. As a rule, all exhibition premises are open daily, including state holidays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, except Mondays. Any temporary changes of the visiting hours will be displayed on information panels or announced in the press and other media.
  6. Ticket sales commence with the opening of the exhibition premises and cease 30 minutes before visiting hours end.
  7. Closing is announced by National Gallery guards or a public address system 15, 10 and 5 minutes before closing time. After the last reminder, the visitor is required to leave the exhibition premises.
  8. It is strictly forbidden to touch the exhibits on display, their frames, pedestals and showcases, and a distance of at least 30 cm must be maintained at all times. The visitor may only touch exhibits thus designated. Blind or sight-impaired visitors may touch the exhibits according to the instructions of National Gallery staff.
  9. The photographing or videotaping of artefacts on display on the premises of the National Gallery is allowed strictly for personal use only, without the use of either flash or tripod, and unless otherwise specified in the given exhibition space.
  10. It is forbidden to eat, drink or smoke on the exhibition premises other than in those areas clearly designated for the purpose. It is forbidden to or use one's own audio-visual equipment and cellular phone, should they disturb other visitors.
  11. Anyone wearing extremely dirty clothing or acting in a manner jeopardizing displayed artworks or the safety of other visitors will be barred from entering or asked to leave the National Gallery.
  12. If a visitor causes any damage to the National Gallery by failure to adhere to the Visitor's Rules or by the commission of any other improper act, a record will be made of such event. If the visitor refuses to reveal his/her identity, the assistance of the Czech Police will be sought in accordance with Article 13 of Act No. 283/91 Coll. The amount and manner of payment for damages will be determined in accordance with the respective rules of the National Gallery.
  13. The visitor may register an on-the-spot complaint with a responsible guard or with the Department of Internal Inspection and Audit, Head Office, National Gallery in Prague, Staroměstské náměstí 12, Prague 1.
  14. If a visitor violates any of the rules stipulated here, his or her visit to the exhibition rooms of the National Gallery will be terminated.

These Rules for Visitors come into effect as of April 1, 2007, cancelling the previous set of Rules that had been valid since June 1, 2000.
