Zuzana Lenhartová, chair of the refugee aid organisation Pomáháme lidem na útěku (We help people on the run) will be presenting her experiences with offering help at the borders. The organisation coordinates help of Czech volunteer on so called Balkan route.
The news about refugee´s journey to Europe in August 2015 caused a lot of turbulences among people in the Czech republic: they raised wave of refusal but also wave of solidarity. In the Czech society there were a lot of people who decided to go to see for themselves how the situation looks like and if they can help. In September 2015 the coordination team of the organisation Pomáháme lidem na útěku (Czech Team) was created. Its purpose was a humanitarian help for the people fleeing from war zones to Europe. With its coordination there have been more than 4.000 Czech volunteers helping at the borders.
The lecture of Zuzana Lenhartová will be about the Czech refugee help organized on voluntary basis. She will talk about how volunteers were helping in Hungary, Serbia, Greece and other European countries, where tens of thousands of people were stranded at the borders without basic help, infrastructure and supplies. Volunteer help and financial help of thousands of Czechs were saving lives and showed the human face of Europe in a situation, where the states were failing. Until now the organisation Pomáháme lidem na útěku is active in the refugee camps in Northern Serbia. The presentation will be connected with a financial collection aiming to help refugees in the camps in the upcoming winter.
The lecture will be introduced by a short film of the Slovak artist Tomáš Rafa.
