Zdeněk Beran (b. 1937) is one of the most remarkable artists of the Czech art scene. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of Prof. Vladimír Sychra in 1956–1962. He was a member of the group of artists who called themselves the Bums and attended the unofficial Confrontations where the so-called Czech Informel was formed in 1960. From the second half of the 1960s, figurative elements found a distinct place in his work. The extraordinary object The Rehabilitation Ward of Dr. Dr, a part of which is on display at the permanent exhibition of 19th-, 20th- and 21st-century art in the Veletržní Palace, was made in 1970–1971. The retrospective exhibition presents the artist’s work from all angles.
