The National Gallery in Prague's Three Hundred and Thirty-Three Contest has become the largest competition for the youngest generation of artists in the Czech and Slovak Republics. Although the number of artist entrants has remained constant at around one hundred individually submitted artworks, their quality has begun to stabilize, enabling the contest to create a representative picture of the forms and possibilities of the "youngest art" in our cultural environment. The mixture of criteria and turbulence of creative preferences, however, makes it impossible to draw any easy conclusions. Despite - or because of - this fact, the contest has become irreplaceable. The question is whether the works selected for the final presentation of youngest art are really the most important ones and whether the artists, curators and art critics can appreciate essential artworks and support irreplaceable talented artists. To achieve maximum objectivity, we have invited major Czech and Slovak figures of different generations and opinions - artists, curators and art critics - to cooperate in selecting the artworks. All the jury members approved the final list.
