The National Gallery presents a selection of drawings, sketches, studies and illustrations by Jan Zrzavý (1890–1977), which form part of a large donation by the Děti-kultura-sport Foundation of Uherské Hradiště. This collection of more than eight hundred works on paper surveys the evolution of the work of the most eminent Czech 20th century modern artist. Presenting several well-known ideas in their initial stages and travel sketches from Italy and France, as well as illustrations for both Czech and world literature, the exhibition offers unique insight into Zrzavý’s complex imagination.
