The life and work of Otakar Kubín (1883 Boskovice – 1969 Marseille) is linked with France, where he enjoyed celebrated success at the most famous Paris salons. A painter, graphic artist and sculptor, Kubín was a member of the avant-garde group The Eight and a representative of the Paris School. Through the influences of Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh and his own peculiar rethinking of Cubo-Expressionism Kubín arrived at a radical artistic stance. This he found in the anchorage of Neo-Classicism and the landscape of Provence, where he lived for most of his life, adopting a French identity as Othon Coubine.
