The selected graphic sheets by Pablo Picasso (lithography, drypoint) from 1904-1905 present major works by the artist that reflect the fin de siècle mood and the artist's social empathy which permeates his circus-inspired works from Barcelona and Paris. Picasso learned about printing in 1904, and his first etching Frugal Meal demonstrated how he might take advantage of the new artistic possibilities afforded by this technique. In 1906, well-known Paris gallery owner Ambroise Vollard bought an extensive set of Picasso's artworks and later had 14 graphic sheets called Les Saltimbanques (The Acrobats) printed. These sheets are also housed in the National Gallery in Prague.
