Several selected artworks by French artists done around the mid-19th century show the multilayered process of this period, which is represented by an example of genre work by Alexandre G. Decamps and a painting by Gaston La Touche that was inspired by the fashionable milieu of Paris. The other artworks by Léon Bonnat, Jules Goupil, David de Noter and Léon Delachaux focus on portraiture and intimate painting.
