The relocating of National Gallery in Prague exhibitions
The National Gallery in Prague will undergo many changes in 2009. On May 10, 2009, the permanent exhibition The Landscape in Czech Art will close. On September 30, 2009, the National Gallery in Prague will leave Zbraslav Chateau.
One of the National Gallery's priorities is to be an open institution, mediating for Czech and international visitors contact with artistic icons and lesser-known artworks that could not be publicly presented because of the oppressive totalitarian regime.
This year will be especially dedicated to changes related to relocating the permanent exhibitions.
The most important installation change will affect the Veletržní Palace, where a new exhibition was opened on the third and fourth floors on April 8, 2009.
Another major change, long under preparation, will be the opening of a new exhibition in the Kinský Palace in December. For this reason, the permanent exhibition The Landscape in Nineteenth-century Czech Art will close on Monday May 10, 2009. Now is the last chance to see this exhibit on the Palace's first floor. Admission to the exhibition will be free of charge until May 10, 2009.
The permanent exhibition of Asian Art (the Collection of Oriental Art of the National Gallery in Prague) will close on Monday July 6, 2009. That will be the last opening day for visitors and admission will be free. The chateau will be returned to its owner and the National Gallery will no longer be connected with it.
On December 11, 2009, visitors to the Kinský Palace will see a new exhibition called
Classical and Oriental Art
