The small exhibition of drawings in the Cabinet of Prints and Drawings commemorates the anniversary of the solitaire of the generation of the Osma [Eight] group and the Mánes Association of Fine Artists, Jan Trampota. Drawings occupy a substantial place in Trampotaʼs oeuvre and well illustrate his artistic thinking, seeking harmony of inner experience and respect for the past in an organic modern approach. His early works displayed an interest in figurative subjects, shared by all artists of the arriving Modernism. During the 1920s, he developed the subjects of figures and heads following the lines of Synthetic Cubism to a distinctively simplified form and ornamental signs in his drawings which brought them close to Lyrical Cubism. These and other motifs, however, gradually gave way to a new subject - landscape. Their geometricizing form refers to the specific synthesis of Cézanneʼs artistic feeling and form.
