The permanent exhibition of 19th-century art, exhibition halls and Graphic Cabinet in St George's Convent have been enriched with another small room fit to display a single artwork. The first to be presented is Returning from a Hunt by Max Haushofer, a Munich-based painter and landscape school professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, a loan from Kodl Gallery.
The scene displays an autumnal mood of melancholy, an effort to be accurate, matter-of-factness and a high degree of verisimilitude. It was Haushofer's combination of romantic content and realistic rendition (typical of his work) that left a permanent impression on his many pupils during the twenty-two years he taught in Prague.
